Investing in Your Child’s Smile

Nashua, NH – Orthodontic treatment is a common rite of passage for adolescents. If you have children in need of treatment, you’re probably wondering how much that treatment will cost. Dr. Chelian of Chelian Orthodontics explains the cost of orthodontic treatment for children.

First, it’s important to think of orthodontic treatment as an investment in the health of your child’s smile,” says Dr. Chelian. “We all want what is best for our children, and a healthy, properly functioning smile should be on that list. And at Chelian Orthodontics, we’re committed to making treatment to achieve that accessible to everyone.”

The typical cost for orthodontic treatment for children ranges between $3,000 and $7,000. Several factors contribute to the cost, but it is important to keep in mind that every smile is unique so therefore requires an individualized treatment plan. Some of the factors that contribute to the cost of treatment include:

  1. Severity of the issue. The complexity of your child’s orthodontic issue has a direct impact on the cost. Some children only need minor adjustments, while others require more extensive treatment. Significant bite issues or severe crowding issues can be more extensive to treat, requiring more time and resources to correct.
  2. Type of treatment chosen. While the cost of traditional metal braces and other options, such as clear aligners, is much closer than ever before, there may still be a bit of a price difference. Clear aligners can be slightly more expensive. Treatments such as lingual braces can be quite a bit more expensive than traditional braces. And, if your child requires the use of additional appliances, such as palatal expanders, the cost can be higher.
  3. Length of time in treatment. The longer your child is in treatment, the more appointments he or she will have, which can increase the total cost.
  4. Expertise and experience of your orthodontist. The training and experience of your orthodontist may have a direct impact on their overall cost. When you find an orthodontist with pricing that is significantly lower than others in your area, take the time to examine their experience and completed cases to ensure you are receiving care from a well-trained professional adept at treating a variety of malocclusions.
  5. Geographical location. Areas of the country with higher costs of living may see more expensive orthodontic treatment than other areas.

What’s Included in the Cost of Treatment

Let’s take a look at what your overall cost for orthodontic treatment includes:

  • Consultation and exam. At this appointment, our team assesses your child’s oral health, takes all necessary images and X-rays, and discuss treatment options available.
  • Treatment planning. Every patient deserves a customized treatment plan designed to meet their unique needs and smile goals. Dr. Chelian will craft a plan designed to provide your child with their ideal smile.
  • Placement of the braces/aligners. This includes placement of braces and appliances, as well as fittings for aligners.
  • Adjustment appointments. Your child will visit Chelian Orthodontics at regular intervals so we can be sure treatment is proceeding as expected.
  • Emergency visits. We’re always here for your family in case of an unexpected injury or damage to your child’s braces.
  • Removal of appliances/braces. Once treatment is complete, your child’s smile is ready to show off to the world.
