Traditional metal braces are still today’s most commonly used treatment method. And for good reason – they are effective and reliable. And today’s are sleeker than ever before, using high-tech materials to ensure your new smile can be achieved as efficiently as possible, while not making you stick out like a sore thumb.
Metal braces use a bracket and wire system to guide the teeth to their ideal locations. The brackets are bonded directly to the teeth using a special bonding agent. Archwires are then attached to the brackets and held on by ligature ties. The archwire places the pressure needed to move the teeth gently. You can personalize your treatment by choosing your favorite colors for your ligature ties.
You’ll come to our office at regular intervals so we can replace the archwires as needed to ensure the correct amount of pressure is always being used. Some patients may get additional elastics to use as part of their treatment. For some corrections, such as jaw placement, these elastics help us guide the teeth and the jaw simultaneously so that the result is a straighter smile and a properly positioned jaw.
Metal braces are ideal for every type of malocclusion and are effective for even the most serious cases. While they are visible because they are made of metal, today’s brackets are smaller than ever. Patients with the most severe types of malocclusions may find that metal braces are the best option to meet their smile goals.
No treatment is better than another, however, one treatment might be a better fit for an individual patient. The type of treatment that will be most ideal for you is the one that can most efficiently and effectively meet your smile goals. More complex issues may be better treated with metal braces because of the efficiency with which they can move teeth. To determine which treatment will be ideal for you, schedule an appointment with our orthodontic team. Every treatment option will come with its own sets of pros and cons, so working with an orthodontist can help you determine how to proceed properly.
How your smile responds to treatment is unique to you. Metal braces are efficient, but for patients with minor malocclusions, clear aligners may be able to achieve their goals as efficiently as metal braces.
Metal braces typically cost between $3,000 and $7,000. The exact cost of your treatment will be dependent on several factors, including your age at the time of treatment and the severity of your malocclusion.
Every insurance plan is different; however, if your plan provides orthodontic coverage, metal braces will be included. How much of your treatment cost that will be covered will be unique to your plan. It is the duty of the patient to understand their benefits prior to beginning treatment. Our office will help you verify your benefits and file insurance claims.
At Chelian Orthodontics, we accept many major dental insurances, which can greatly help with the cost of treatment. We will work with our patients to find a payment or financing plan that can comfortably fit into their budgets to help cover any remaining costs of treatment.
